A woman is comfortable in her own home and is able to labor unencumbered. She is in control of where she labors, when she eats and drinks, and how she wants to bring her baby earthside. She invites the midwife and birth attendants into her home as guests. She is not a "patient" or instructed to conform to a sterile hospital environment. She has room for privacy, intimacy, and is surrounded by her own comforts.
In order to combat the rising rates of induction, cesarean birth, and increased maternal mortality in our country we must do better. One way that we can improve outcomes is by offering home birth as an option for low-risk women. Increasing access to midwifery care and choices for birth will also improve our standards of care and outcomes for women.
